Sex and The City

By the time you read this, I betcha most of you have already watched it. The reason why I said this is, at least I got a ticket with a good seat on Indiana Jones’ opening day, but not so for SATC. I was at orchard cineleisure at 1230 and i only mgd to get a seat 4th row from the front. Happening! Anyway, i figured most people must have booked their tickets way in advance on the net – it was full house when I was at the theatre and I tell you, there was a lot of excitement in the air. When the opening credits come on and the familiar introductory tune played…there was applause and cheers! Hahaha! The last time something like this happened, was when I watched….. Star Wars (the final instalment) Geeky!. Anyway, another worthy mention was, we had a number of gays and their partners in the audience (yes it was obvious, but that’s cool) and for the ladies, they were pretty dressed up just to watch this flick (maybe of the “pressure” since you know, the show advocates fashion and style and all).

Ok, back to the show. I enjoyed it quite a lot, well at least for the first 1.5 hours of it. I enjoyed Samantha’s Jones’ rebuttals and witty comments and it was fun checking out Carrie Bradshaw’s numerous outfits and I also scrutinised the womens’ figures (Carrie’s the most toned and I think Charlotte’s put on a lil weight). But when it hit the 2 hours’ mark, plus the appearance of Jennifer Hudson as the personal assistant, I thought that was pretty unnecessary. I mean, yea, ok, so she won the Oscar during her stint in Dreamgirls, but in SATC, there wasn’t singing involved and she didn’t exactly had to act so, well, i think it was basically a waste of time and she could have just been relegated to sing on the soundtrack, period. I just thought if it the show was packed into 2 hours, then it may have been more impactful and I would probably raise another popcorn. In this case, I would give it 3.5 popcorns.

P.S By the way, Miranda played by Cynthia Nixon is gay in real life huh. And was there supposed to be a R21 version at all? I read in ST Life today, what we got in Singapore was R18. Hmmmm

Everybody Dance Now ~~ C+C Music Factory

Has this song got the longest lyrics or what? Sweat, dance till you bleed! Fierce man.

Everybody dance now (x2)
Give me the music (x2)
Everybody dance now (x2)
Yeah yeah yeah
Everybody dance now
Yeah yeah yeah
Everybody

Here is the dome back with the bass
The jam is live in effect and I don’t waste time
Off the mic with a dope rhyme jump to the rhythm
Jump jump to the rhythm jump
And I’m here to combine beats and lyrics
To make you shake your pants take a chance
Come on and dance guys grab a girl don’t wait make the twirl
It’s your world and I’m just a squirrel
Trying to get a nut to move your butt to the dance floor
So you what’s up hands in the air come on say yeah
Everybody over here everybody over there
The crowd is live enough as I pursue this groove
Party people in the house move

Left to right (groove) work me all night
Come on let’s sweat (sweat sweat) baby
Let the music take control (control control)
Let the rhythm move you
Sweat (sweat sweat) sweat
Let the music take your soul (soul soul)
Let the rhythm move you
Everybody dance now

Da da da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da da da (x2)
(Ooh)

(repeat)

(Move) everybody dance now
Everybody dance now

Pause take a breath and go for yours on my command
Now hit the dance floor it’s gonna make you sweat till you bleed
Is that dope enough indeed I paid the price to control the dice
I’m all precise to the point I’m nice
Let the music take control of your heart and soul
Unfold your body is free and behold
Dance till you can’t dance till you can’t dance no more
Get on the floor and get ablow
Then come back and upside down easy now
Let me see you move left to right groove
Work me all night

The music is my life
Everybody dance now (x3)
Everybody

Come on let’s sweat (sweat sweat) baby
Let the music take control (control control)
Let the rhythm move you
Sweat (sweat sweat) sweat
Let the music take your soul (soul soul)
Let the rhythm move you

Da da da da da da da da da da (x2)

Indiana Jones

Sorry folks, if you have not watched this, then the following comments might hurt you a lil. Ok, maybe it won’t mean anything cos Im no movie critic, but personally, I felt the show was well, rather disappointing. No wonder Lucas/Spielberg didn’t want the movie to be previewed and everyone is sworn to secrecy. Worried about poor ratings once the reviewers write about it huh. Ok. without revealing too much, all I can say is that the show became a little too sci-fi for my liking. Almost a little X-files-ish. Mulderrr and Scullly – hah remember that stupid song.

Oh and we sat next to a mega fan (mega fans almost always watch alone) who wassitting on the edge on his seat and let out excited yelps every now and then. Like a small puppy! *Yelp* *Yelp* But you know what the scary part was – when we exited the theatre, I saw the side profile of this mega fan and his head resembles the Crystal Skull man. No kidding! Damn hardcore. Seriously, creepy or what.

Ok, anyway, this show is supposed to be a summer blockbuster, so just watch it and get it over and done with so at least you can tell the others, you watched it already.

I give it 3 and a half popcorns.

Im looking forward to SATC, Kung Fu Panda. I sure hope they don’t disappoint. Come to think of it, I’ve been let down several times recently. Made of Honour, Indy Jones. And this would mean that the best show I caught so far…being…What Happens n Vegas? Damn.

Ashton Kutcher is pretty hot. ;)

football players

I have a confession to make. I was quite into the game and the players (ok maybe just 1) during the time where Malaysia Cup was on. My secondary school pals will tell you that, I actually have my textbooks wrapped with the glossy wallpapers of our SIN team and especially one really cool one with Abbas Saad’s picture. *swoon* Haha, but that was then of course. Nerdish!!

If there’s one sport that I have to watch, it will be soccer. I don’t see myself getting excited over golf, tennis, rugby(cos i dont get it). And this morning’s match got me fired up. Hahaha, its nice to watch a good game where the players actually can play well (unlike our local S league – sorry no offence to anyone, but seriously its plain boring!). OK anyway, so as I watched the game, I just had to make some comments. Cant’t help it, haha. Ok here it goes:-

MAN U PLAYERS

Tevez

Seriously, he looks like a Tasmanian Devil doesnt he? Hardcore man. My colleagues and I know of one other resembles the creature, but i think Tevez beats him hands down. He also has a scary looking scar on his neck. Menancing huh!

Brown

I think he’s interesting. He’s really brown don’t you think. His complexion and his hair. His HAIR! Woah. His hair colour blends extremely well with his complexion, its like just 1 colour only. Brown. And his name. hahah. How appropriate. i think hé’s kinda cute; he looks like a fattened up, far less pale version of Marc Anthony? What do you think?

Ronaldo

He’s portugese but I always think he’s like from South America or something. Maybe its the dark, slicked back hair. Ok this is weird, but suddenly the image of the movie, “From Dusk to Dawn” pops into my head. Its almost as if he may have a role in the show…OK ANYWAY, i think he’s somewhat bengish or maybe he’s into the pesudo-Jap look. Check out the tweezed eyebrows. Its tweezed right. No? Well, it looks tweezed!

Nani

Yet another portguese player. I refuse to accept that he’s portguese cos i truly believe he has Indian blood in him. I mean, first the name, and the way he looks? And not forgetting how he was behaving last night after the team won. Dancing around like some bhangra rock act. Sheesh. And he was trying to get all the cameras attention on him. Media whore huh? Or maybe just typical, you know what I mean  (num nut style – colleagues, you know who I am referring to!!)

CHELSEA PLAYER

Michael Ballack

He is Mark Walberg. I also think he’s quite cute. Haha. Oh well. And his picture is the largest here, not because I like him the best. Selamat Sorrreeee!!

David Cook wins American Idol!!!!!!

Observers surprised by 25-year-old’s win

Alex Strachan, Canwest News Service Published: Wednesday, May 21, 2008

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! And what a relief!!

The rest of the other details don’t really matter.

But here’s some highlights:-

The result came as a surprise to many observers and onlookers after Idol judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell all but handed the title Tuesday to Cook’s rival and finalist in the competition, 17-year-old David Archuleta.

The fans who vote for Idol saw it differently however, and the vote tally swung in Cook’s favour, possibly because of his maturity and old-soul rocker vibe. Some reviewers also suspected a backlash among voters against the judges’ comments, which seemed to unfairly favour Archuleta.

A record 97 million votes were cast overall, 23 million more than American Idol’s previous high. In the end, Cook won by a relatively wide margin, 56% to 44%, or 12 million votes.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest seemed genuinely startled as he read the results, shortly before the scheduled end of the two-hour live broadcast.

Cook smiled, put his arm around Archuleta and gave him a consoling squeeze. Archuleta was gracious in defeat, and seemed genuinely pleased that Cook won.

Ironically, Cook never intended to audition for Idol. He accompanied his younger brother Andrew to an audition in Omaha, Neb. and was talked into applying himself.

Looks like its a pretty good day, with Man U’s win (i’m in full support bcoz my loved one is a fan) and now the results on American Idol. Gonna catch the full results show tonight man.

The newly-crowned UEFA League Champion

Its been donkey years since I last watched a soccer match. And today, I made an exception and actually followed through the match at 2.45am to 5.45am, without falling asleep. Im glad I watched really. A really really exciting match, extremely nerve-wrecking with sooo many near-misses by both teams. But of course I was rooting for Manchester United. Im no football guru, but seriously, they played a good match; really entertaining and because I got so panicky for them, I went to the loo twice to take a dump. Can you imagine? Super nervous huh. Haha.

Anyway, if you have watched the match, you would have enjoyed the drama on the field, what’s with the Drogba getting into a tussle with was it Tevez or Vidic or whatever. And he actually raised his hand and slapped one of the Man U players. Dumbass, and thankfully enough, the referee is not a num nut, so a red card was issued and so Drogba had to be sent off. Dumb.

And 90mins was up, so went into extra time, and still dead-locked at 1-1. Woah. So went into penalty time and i was thinking to myself. Damn. The players must be damn tired, playing for over 100 minutes? Anyway, so when the penalties were taken, Ronaldo hesitated and missed. Shit. And so the drama continues and Chelsea scored 1 and then missed 1. The last straw came and well, our dear Danish guy Mr Van Der Sar saved the day. Phew. And so the newly crowned UEFA champion is none other than MANCHESTER UNITED.

Ok, time to finally catch some sleep now, what’s with a splitting headache, having the runs, trembling thighs and my significant other’s clammy hands. This is a major ride man.

Taxidermia

Following his captivating, yet somewhat inscrutable Hukkle, Hungarian director György Pálfi delivers something of a mad masterpiece with his second film Taxidermia.

The most remarkable thing about Taxidermia is that it manages to feel so certain of itself throughout. Despite a non-stop phantasmagorical array of horror and perversity, nothing in the movie seems gratuitous. Pálfi’s vision remains so comprehensive and convincing that it justifies everything that he puts his audience through. He presents graphic vomiting, explicit masturbation, animal slaughter, human dissection with the same matter-of-fact, almost noncommittal detachment with which he seems to regard his characters. The end result is expertly, even excessively, controlled, but downright fascinating. His absurdist fable examines the shame inherent in a violently repressed society, the sad spectacle of Communist celebration and the self-destructive navel-gazing of modern times. To dismiss his film as merely a freak show is to reduce it, even if it certainly qualifies as one on a surface level.

Question. What is phantasmagorical? Wow, what a mouthful! Nice man. Wished I could write something like this. Iin case you are wondering. The above is an extract from Moviemartyr.com. Even the URL sounds cool. Martyr or what!

Anyway, I watched this on Vesak Day. And this is one helluva strange show. I actually felt sick at 1 point, somewhat nauseous, but of course I held it all in and pretended that I was ok. And I squirmed in my seat during the last scene. Super graphic stuff when the person operates on himself. ”Nuff said. The images are coming back to me already. Yeeee. So the verdict is, if you want to test the strength of your stomach and you would want to know exactly how much you could stomach, or what may potentially be expelled from your stomach. Go watch it, on an empty stomach, recommended.

Oh, on a random note, an Indian family with their 10-12ish looking son entered the theatre (the atas Picturehouse I may add) mid-way through the movie, went searching for their seats in the dark, and thereafter realises that they were in the wrong theatre 5 minutes later. Great. Ironman is next door pleassseee!

Meanwhile, enjoy the trailer!

David vs David

Just caught American Idol on Starworld. Shucks, Im kinda disappointed with David Cook’s performance tonight. Sure, he can sing, but whats with the lacklustre, un-impactful songs that he chose?! Sigh. I am banking on him to win but it looks like the winner may just go to David A. URGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. And Simon Cowell’s commentary is spot-on tonight, or at least this is how I feel.

I sure hope David A doesn’t win this man. FIngers crossed. And whats with him looking like he’s going to break down each time after he sings the song. Help.

Results tomorrow morning 8am on Starworld huh. Fingers crossed!!!

a quote

“Sushi freaks me out more than anything. At least a vagina would be warm.”

Kate Beckinsale said this. Didn’t know she had a sense of humour.

American Idol

And we have the final 2. Was meaning to write this on the night where the final 3 performed but well what the heck. My prediction was right anyway and here were my observations for that night:-

1. I havent watched AI for a while but is it me or is ryan seacrest acting somewhat weird? He was enunciating his words, in the most exaggerated fashion and then each time the contestant sang after he announced the toll-free numbers to call, he actually slapped the contestants on their backs, quite hard you know! Piak! At 1 point, I thought I actually could sense David Cook being jolted out of his spacey mode (he just finished his song, so he is still “getting over” the moment) but still had to keep a straight face until he is asked to step down from stage. And then 1 point, Ryan wanted to thank the sponsors and went like…COOOH-KA COOOO-LA. Yikes what’s with him man, i think he’s far better hosting E entertainment on Ch 80.

2. David A. He sings well, but seriously, With You by Chris Brown? So awkward! The swaying of hips from side to side. Not sure if he is trying to dance or groove to the tune, but yucks. The whole segment was rather unbearable. Personally, i would have prefer Sa-e-sha (i  cant spell) to be part of the final 2, but then again im sure he gets adolescent girls voting for him….but then again, he’s not exactly very cute too you know.

3. Syesha. Ok, was the only female contestant in the final 3. Nice voice and good body but was told by the judges that she had a bad choice of song.  The 2nd song was deemed rather cabaret-ish with her moves and the use of prop (chair). I thought about it and well it struck me that, maybeee she knows the song wasnt a good choice, but perhaps she wanted to play up her sex appeal (she is the only female afterall), so that could garner more votes? But, obviously the move backfired. I think it didnt help that the comments from the judges was unanimous (you are not going to the finals)

Ok so its the Battle of the Davids huh. I seriously hope David Cook wins. He has the whole package, well at least better than the younger one and I have a BFF who is completely obsessed with him. But i still think he looks somewhat like a girl, strip away the facial hair and you have 1 rather good-looking girl. Hah.

alternative career options for me

1. Radio DJ

which means then, I have to enrol myself in the Radio Academy. Well, liking music is a pre-requisite (I do) and you have to speak fairly well (obviously) and you should have a pleasant voice (no squeaky mice pls). Best to have a sense of humour so you can engage your listening audience yeah? Nothing’s worse than a bimbo on air that turns you completely off, remember Jamie Yeo? Hmmm this sounds rather exciting, not forgetting the invitations to gala parties, music events etc. Nice!

2. A teaching professional

This could range from being a lecturer in a ITE or a polytechnic. Ok, maybe a poly might be more interesting, going back to my alma mater. Hah, Anyway, i was just flipping through the recruit on sat and they are hiring! Temasek and Ngee Ann poly. Or maybe can go enrol in NIE and then become one of the teachers that mould the future of the younger generation! Wow. Incidentally, I recently received a NIE “exclusive” invite to one of their recruitment talks at Orchard Hotel (its always this place!). Looks like teachers are back in demand huh? And i thought its like super hard to even get yourself invited to one of these recruitment drives?

3. Becoming a student all over again (not exactly a career option in this case, but it does has a part to play in future careers)

Remember my other entry on La-Salle SIA College of the Arts? This is exactly it. I feel inspired to be a student again, haha. Maybe pursue something related to music, arts, or fashion. Haiz. I always wanted to be a fashion merchandiser. Almost did that before I studied tourism in the poly, but i guess a part of me felt that this isnt exactly a wise career move, oh well.

I like this song

american boy. By Estelle feat. Kanye West

mambo jambo

Its amazing how this weekly event has been running over a decade now and has still stayed true to its form. I think its deliberately made that way simply because,  from Zouk’s perspective, it’s probably one of the more lucrative nights *ka-ching!*  (just look at the snakes of queues every Wed, gets worse when its an eve of PH), no matter how incredibly cheesy this can get (solely my opinion) Nevertheless, the crowd seems to lap up the cheesiness – there are plenty of young ones there, but you will still see the older folks in the main floor as they seem to enjoy music (aligned to their era), so its quite nice to reminisce also. Quite honestly, I think some songs are quite nice (just for listening sake) but probably not for dancing. Oh well!

Phuture is also open to those who like RnB and this is probably one of the more popular nights as you can get all the similar age groups packed in 1 night, so scoring with someone closer to your age should be easy I suppose. Also, not forgetting that the girls are all dressed to kill, so hey there should be sufficient eye candy for the boys. Ok, likewise, the boys are dressed to impress too.

We also notice eager beavers aplenty, looking all super kancheong to ferry their jugs of mixers and tequilas to their friends so they can get the girls drunk. Haha, good move I suppose, at least the girls won’t think you are some stingy bastards.

Anyway, for the hardcore mambo fans, I salute you! You are not embarrassed about being on the podium dishing out hand gestures which may look comedic to others.  And you are not embarrassed about dancing the exact same way with 50 others. Nice!

Meanwhile, I don’t think it will be my last time going to Zouk on a wed night. Its always still nice to go to a packed club then one that is a ghost town. At least you can get the “happening”feeling and feel good afterwards. :) I like the winebar and members bar on Weds – ample room to move around and breathe and still have a decent conversation with your friends! Yay!

Finding Mr Right

First of all, is there such a thing as Mr Right? Secondly, can we actually find one? This article offers a handy tip to help you find one. Its not rocket science, really. Its all about using reason together with the tool called Compartmentalisation. Come to think about it, being methodical as the article suggests, isnt a bad thing really. It helps you to sort out what you want by simply taking the initial step to, defining your requirements. That said, you can then build categories for your target list and if you work along these lines… you may just get what you want? (with a tinge of luck, i reckon). Some people may think, hey, i dont have any requirements in finding a partner…? Well, honestly, if you ask me, I believed everyone does, but it just a matter of choice if they want to go with their pre-determined set of criteria or not. In which case, I think it can be a good thing not to have any expectations and see what comes your way. You can be greeted by refreshing choices and you can perhaps then evaluate accordingly if its all worth it. If it doesn’t, at least you have tried and you know it didn’t work out. Otherwise, you may never ever know? Therefore, I strongly feel that everyone shouldn’t deny themselves finding or receiving l.o.v.e. To begin with, love is not something that comes by everyday so, well, you know what you should do

Ok enough of me now, pls refer to Sandra Leong’s take and let me know what you think (simply click on article and it “enlarges”  the text for you).

PS Cafe

Was at dempsey last night. Pretty happening crowd (as usual). I think the post-zouk/velvet types have all relocated here. Come to think of it, im probably entering that phase soon, since Im getting older and slowly getting more detached from the clubbing scene. It’s kinda sad really, considering I’m one of those who strongly believe that you can party, hard, no matter how old you are. But seriously, the crowd is such a put-off now, it simply kills your mood. Sigh. Probably need to get more intoxicated to enjoy or maybe just move on. To a place called Dempsey. Hah.

Ok, so there are several gems here, Like the nice & expensive Ben & Jerry’s and Oosh and Hacienda. And if you are into wine, you will also be spoilt for choice. PS cafe is one place I heard and know but have not had a chance to actually dine there. I heard from my love that Brunch is good there. Will go one weekend afternoon and try it. Anyway, this time, we had desserts only but that was really enough. You will see why. We had the double chocolate cake with ice cream, it was about 14 bucks for this, before taxes. But i suppose its worth it, if you are reaally into chocolate.

PS Cafe

The cake was made of dark chocolate and coated with dark chocolate sauce and there is a small scoop of vanilla ice cream next to it. It looks really yummy and when I took my first bite. It was like, whoa, it feels like I’m eating one whole big BAR of chocolate. Only this time, its a little softer and you can taste a little cream in between. I’m not sure if that is necessarily a good thing, but if you work the math – it may well be worth it, considering a good bar of dark chocolate is also quite pricey.

Anyway, what i like most of about PS Cafe was the layout and ambience. You will not find uncouth, hawker types here. The crowd comprises of mainly expatriates, women and a handful of men. The cafe is just next to patch of green, flanked by forests, which exudes a little “Garden of Eden” type of feel. But the best part has got to be the bathrooms. Its the smell. I meant the sweet scent from the vase of flowers. Nice. So elegant. Atas! I also want to have fresh flowers in my home next time. :)

P.S we also bumped into a familiar face, Ros from 987fm. In front of B&J She shaved half the side of her head and while she looks quite “rock” I though she looked somewhat, butchy. Or maybe its just me. And this is like the third time we ran into her. She hangs out at orchard cineleisure quite a lot actually. Hmmm

yet another song of the week

“Leavin” by Jesse McCartney (I know!)

Nice tune though and look out for the best advice. Don’t stress don’t stress. Haha. but still quite groovy! G5 G5 hah.

song of another week

“Look After You” by The Fray
Focus on the song, not the video please. Its not the correct video anyway!

i like!

this is some random stuff and so far i have only made this confession to my significant other. Ok, seriously, I have a crush on ….a building, a fabulous architectural structure. OK before you think that I’m mental, let me explain. The building I’ve recently fallen in love with is located near my church and its located at 1 McNally Street. Even the street name sounds cool man. Geez! Ok ok, Im really talking about THE LASALLE SIA-COLLEGE OF THE ARTS! see! All in caps, excited or what. Goshh. I love everything about this place. the structure, the layout, the bridge connecting the 2 towers, the glass panels, the installation art pieces, the patch of green sprawled across on the ground floor with a directory signpost pointing to the different campuses of the school. Its so cool, it hurts. Gosh. Im a poseur. Shucks. Ok anyway, i was just thinking the students here must be damn lucky cos they get to come to this school every day for their lessons. That would be a strong source of motivation to wake up early, jump on the 1st bus and arrive early in school! Nerdish. shucks, i think im getting out of hand. Frankly speaking, a part of me thought about pursuing a side course on fashion (ahhh) music (nice) or art (hmmm…ok maybe not), but then again, if you are actually a student, i guess the whole attitude, perception towards school will no doubt change. Soooo.. well, before i go crazy again, i have included some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

this is my favourite, but i dont think the shot does any justice to how it actually looks like. You have to see the building in the flesh. 1 McNally Street.

Looking forward to next Sunday!
