4bia
For those who have been following the latest movie releases, you will find the above title very familiar. Its the latest gig from our friends from the Land Of Smiles i.e a horror flick and it has big-name directors behind it, including the chap who did Shutter.
I am a sucker of horror movies as my friends or closed ones will tell you. Not the super dumb, I know what you did last summer types (but Scream 1 and 2 were pretty scary, ha) but it should be at least clever ones, along the likes of The Sixth Sense, The Others and the foreign (Spanish/Italian?) The Orphanage. Even Shutter, the thai one was pretty good being backed up by some twists, and perfectly-timed scary moments.
Anyway, i went in the theatre feeling pretty excited about 4bia, noting the 3.5 star review on 8 days. ok before i start talking about the plot, a couple of girls were screaming (before the show started! great) and at 1 point of time, 1 guy was actually whimpering or at least this was what it sounded like. And i screamed twice (soft ones, not the super high-pitched type). whoa. hahha.
Anyway, there are 4 stories in this movie, the first one was pretty good, 2nd one, a little stupid bcos of the stupid special “gory” effects (they’ve got budget now!), the fourth one was frightful and the third one, wow, it was surprisingly funny; the actors were able to play up the comedic effect. And for those perfectly-timed scary moments, this movie takes the cake! These Thai people really are getting better at doing this.
Anyway, I enjoyed the show and was a little spooked after that as my love will tell you. I tend to talk a little too much when Im affected by something. Go watch it and tell me what you think.
Tien Tien Huo Guo
I had steamboat last night at bugis last night. Tan Quee Lan Street to be exact. There were a couple of outlets there with 1 particularly crowded cos their soup is some unique concoction and they provide free flow of drinks. We settled for the Tien Tien Huo Guo around the corner. Turned out to be quite ok, i mean 16 nett for free flow of food. I guess its alright. Anyway, I was quite stuffed after dinner (kinda obvious) and felt there was something stuck in my throat, like the side of the vegetable, could be the section of the leaf or something. I tried coughing it out many times but i couldnt expel it,then i bought Jia Jia Liang Teh to soothe my throat after all the coughing, showered and then slept. Felt somewhat better Before i slept but when i woke up, my throat was freaking sore. Im not sure if my love has passed his throat/flu bug to me bcos his phlegm is super green or maybe its all the coughing that caused it ,anyway, the feeling’s terrble and i suspect im gonna lose my voice anytime.
Had an off day today and basically just lazed the day away. Went out for a late lunch and then the whiff of durians really got us hooked so we bought 8 durians in total! Well, 1 costs $1 each so it was pretty worth it. We bought it at the kovan market area and for $1, wah, the durians damn nice loh. But bcos of my stupid throat, i couldnt enjoy it it fully and i had to drink pi pa gao and suck on strepsils. Wretched. But i do like pi pa gao and how it tastes, i can drink it everyday!
The Swordfish then the Concubine
My love is helping out in this play and he has a cameo too! Turns out that quite a number of my colleagues also watched the play. Hahah what a coincidence.
Saw a couple of people at the drama centre during the finale night too, nick shen and partner, ivan heng, adrian pang and wife. Quite star-studded eh!
gladiator sandals
I seriously think this fashion fad should be abolished especially since guys seem to have picked this up somehow and started spotting them too. I still think it can be quite nice on girls (i also have a pair or 2) if you pair them with shorts, flowy dresses and when you are channeling the bohemian look. BUT GUYS! my god, i wished I could have snapped a picture of the guy in the train who was wearing it, but i didnt want to run risk of him finding out (and he was standing too near!!). He was wearing a lilac sweater like shirt (crinched at the elbows) and white shorts (NOT bermudas) and WHITE GLADIATOR SANDALS and a gucci tote. Im not sure if he’s gay, bi or maybe he thinks he is a fashionista. If he’s gay or something, I probably can forgive him. No wait, its not forgiveable cos its quite damn ugly. Maybe he saw this look off a model on a runway, but there is a reason why some people are models and others are not. And seriously, some looks are better off kept to the runway only, simply because its not practical.
And this is not the first time im seeing this. probably the second time cos I saw 2 guys wearing black ones at orchard mrt, probably on their way to zouk. Yucks! And can you imagine guys wearing those that comes up to the knee (ala Jade Seah in the last episode of Scent of a Women or something on channel 8, with chen hanwei, clarence lee and kym lee et al)! Aiyoh! disgusting!! On guys i mean.
Velvet 14th Anniversary “Goldbar”party
In my opinion, this was quite fun for 1 reason. Free flow of all housepours, wine, champagne and beer. Call me a cheapo, but i think the overall clubbing experience is enhanced especially since you get free entry + free drinks. And for such a party, there was free flow for 1 hour and no, the drinks are not diluted simply bcos Zouk throws the best parties. There is also a lucky draw which everyone receives a key and you are supposed to unlock the treasure chest with the key u pick. I got the key but by the time I actually wanted to walk to the treasure chest, horrors! it was removed. Or maybe it was just a nice gimmick and no one actually will win anything but simply strategically placed to up the hype of finding gold and all. Anyway, from the way I see it, everyone is mighty pleased with the free drinks and a couple of people seem to be really happy and were also shouting S-I-N-G-A-P-O-R-E *clap * clap *clap. Either they really want people to know they are Singaporeans, are patriotic or they are really happy that its National Day on Saturday.
I was with my friend (also my eyebrow technician), (who truly is very important) as all girls will know that brows is a critical feature of your overall looks and it was nice bcos i never quite hang out with her although she always ask me if I go/or had gone clubbing recently so I thought, what the heck, why dont she join me this time. It was all good fun with photographers snapping pictures of “beautiful people” so everyone felt important. Im one of those who have been approached (who doesnt want to be called beautiful right? hahah) and I am supposed to have the pictures emailed to me by the freelance photographer. While I wait for those, i snapped some with my phone camera. I realise its always best to consult with your partner (who is also photographed) before the picture is taken, otherwise you end up having uncoordinated looks, which is not very flattering. Haha oh well!
taken by the professional with a professional camera. the lighting is fab and makes the complexion so matte! nice boy.
Its been a while since I last wrote something and I always like to write if there is something exciting or basically compelling or i have an urgent need to share with others) but for some reason, I havent got down to doing it.
I could write about my recent trip to Manila (yay, Philippines, hmmmm) which wasnt quite interesting as the clients are just dumb or I could write about my hotel room at Renaissance, Makati which I suspect is haunted as my foyer lights were flickering and I can hear droplets of water from the shower tap when Im not using it. Best part was I couldnt turn of the shower tap on the day Ive checked out and I left my pyjamas behind in the room. I dont know what came over me, maybe I forgot or maybe its something else. My colleague said “someone” maybe wearing your pyjamas now. Great. And my return flight on SQ from MNL which was additionally bumpy due to the air turbulence (and heavy rains in SIN) which could have turned into a SQ006 silkair episode..choy! but it didnt, thank god.
That was last week, and as you can see, its not terribly exciting.
The last weekend was more eventful as I took a trip to velevet 14th anniversary party as well as attended the swordfish, then the concubine play at the drama centre. Pics and commentary in the next entry. I hope blog stats go up, hahaha. oops. Im serious, i like to know.
