no clue whatsoever

i dont like to be in a postion where im the last person to know about something. well, i think most people dont like to be in that position either, its like being kept in suspense for the longest time, and then the surprise kinda blows up at your face. and when it comes to whats hot and buzzing in the entertainment world, i pride myself to have pretty up to date info. but i cant believe my love beat me to it. just the other day he said, eh b i think this show twilight should be pretty good, we should watch it when its released. then im like, what twilight? never heard about it. And then i realise what a suaku i had been, it like the biggest show in US ever and there is so much hype that EVERYONE is talking and screaming about it. my ch 80 on starhub for E news has been mentioning it oh so often (but then again i just recently learnt that this channel had been active all along and I DID NOT know it) and 987fm has also talked about it.

just last week, the movie posters were also spotted at dhoby ghaut mrt station, the walkway towards NEL and i tell myself. shit. i got to know whats with this show man.

anyway, i think most of the hype centers around this heartthrob which frankly is quite a looker. and he has a nice brit accent. though i dont really fancy his name very much, a lil oldy sounding.

$2 uncle

last nite i was making my way home as usual and crossed the same traffic junction which i have been using, just like any other normal day. once the green man came on, i crossed mid way and i have the habit on scanning the crowd so i casually looked around and i noticed a man who was carrying a sheng shiong plastic bag. he turned and looked over at me but i didnt care less but i did look glanced at him since he looked at me right. so i was like erm ok.

he was walking slightly ahead of me, thats why i could remember the plastic bad and the next thing i know. midday at the traffic junction, he stopped at his tracks and walked right next to me and said, “xiao jie, ni you mei you liang kuai? wo de peng you dou wo de qian” which translates to miss, do you have $2, my friend stole my money. the moment i heard him open his mouth and said xiao jie, i panicked and refused to acknowledge him cos i was afraid he’ll harrass me. so i walked really fast and away from him and thankfully there were people around me so i could shout for help if he comes near me (i was afraid he’ll grab my arm to get my attention and i had a strong feeling he will, but thankfully he didnt). and i think that did the trick cos i avoided eye contact and i walked really fast so he got the message. phew

as i walked on, i was irritated and then i thought to myself. if the friend really stole his money then what good will $2 do? u cant even buy a decent meal these days. plus how many people can you approach to pull a stunt like this?

i also cannot stand weirdos who pester you at bustops to ask you for spare change so they can take the bus. creepy!

taxi uncle

i took a taxi ride back home the other day and the uncle thanked me profusely cos he didnt know the way from sengkang to amk and i had to give him directions. i didnt mind really, cos well its partly my responsibility to ensure that he goes the way i want him to avoid paying more than necessary. usually the taxi ride comes to around 8-8.60 but this time around the fare came up to only 7.80 which i was quite pleased obviously. i gave him 9.00 and the uncle returned me 1.40. so i was like hmm, thats kinda wrong le. So the uncle suddenly panicked and asked, eh sorry ah then how much should i give you, and i said erm, 2.20? and he was like oh yea, sorry sorry, here it is, 2.20.

after i got out then i realised my math seriously cannot make it. but i “earned” a dollar by mistake. hmmm

and after last nite, this morning when i got up i knew i wasnt too well. been sneezing nonstop and mucus was bascially dripping out of me. yuck. after i came home, im glad i had a good sleep under the influence of flu medicine – super drowsy man. i think i will pop another one before i sleep tonite.

the past few days

i have had on-off headaches the past few days and its getting on my nerves. its throbbing at my temples and thats a stress type of headache right? im not exactly that stressed so im not exactly sure why this is happening!i dont really like to take panadols unless i really have to, but the past few days i have been popping a couple of those pills.

I have also been dreaming. reallly weird ones, involving LKY and a porn star, details too explicit to even write, me losing my laptop bag + laptop in a cab and i have to go hunt down the stupid cab driver who actually drove off with my stuff, without waiting for me to get on the cab? Shit man. bizzarre stuff. And with these dreams, i havent been sleeping that weell, and then i also have a headache to contend with, Double whammy.

oh but things aint that bad cos i just discovered ive got Channel 80 on cable (daily dose of e news!!) and a new freebie channel 81 called style network which is pretty cool. I cant believe how duh i am cos i never thought i had channel 80!! and also 69-71 which makes life so much more interesting now. I just hope its not some kind of free preview type thing and then it would be taken off after a while. oh well.

and now as i type this, i feel like im burning up. i just took another panadol again cos of my headache and i really hope im not getting a fever too. speaking of which, im also getting a lump in my throat…die. i dont want to be sick! the hols are coming around man.

i am a facebook victim

i have succumbed to facebook and i have set up my account a month ago. i think its particularly useful for uploading pics, gettin pics from your friends so you do away with emailing them and youtube also shares a link so you can upload  the vids instantly! wow. so i no longer nid to upload vids here and most of the time the links doesnt work! shit man. its amazing what technology can do and fb is seriously a powerful tool. anyway, add or send me a friend request if you know me and have not already been added by me yea? i want to capitalise on this social networking tool! haha time to find my primary and secondary school frens – i have yet to get them on my fb. Not sure how im gonna find them, but i will most certainly try.

hangover, not

i struggled with getting up this morning. anti-histamines gives me the worse groggy like feeling, similar to the morning after if ive drank too much the night before, except that my throat’’s not parched but cannot help it too, anti-histamines almost like a staple diet for me cos i need to keep my eczema in check and prevent myself from scratching when i sleep. there were incidents that i scratched so hard and when i look at myself in the morning, im amazed at how detailed the scratch marks were and the kind of strength i possess, hah.

Cyber criminals target Facebook users

 

Facebook has been infiltrated by Nigerian scammers and other cyber criminals who use compromised accounts to con users out of cash.

Now that even non-tech savvy internet users know not to respond to, or click on links in, emails from strangers, online thieves have turned to social networks and are finding it is easier to trick people when posing as their friends.

On Friday, Google Australia employee Karina Wells received a Facebook message from one of her friends, Adrian, saying he was stranded in Lagos, Nigeria, and needed her to lend him $500 for a ticket home.

Adrian used relatively good English but, after chatting further, words such as “cell” instead of “mobile phone” tipped Wells off that she was not talking to her friend but someone who had taken over his account.

Using sites such as Facebook allows scammers to research and target victims more effectively and avoid having their messages blocked by spam filters, said Paul Ducklin, head of technology at Sophos Asia Pacific.

It is likely the scammer obtained Adrian’s Facebook login details after he was infected with a virus delivered by email or in an infected web page.

There are a number of viruses which, once installed on a computer, send back to the hacker a detailed log of everything entered using the keyboard, including online banking details and passwords for services such as Facebook.

Wells played along with the scammer, who asked her to transfer the money into a Western Union account.

“Naturally I was concerned as, to all intents and purposes, this seemed to be legitimate,” she said.

“I pretended that I would help, obtained all the details of where he was and forwarded them to both Facebook and the relevant authorities.”

But while the Nigerian scammer used the compromised Facebook account coupled with social engineering tactics to try to convince Wells to hand over money, many are using compromised accounts to spread malware.

Typically, the victim receives a Facebook message from a friend with a subject such as “LOL. You’ve been catched on hidden cam, yo” or “Nice dancing! Shouldn’t you be ashamed?”

The body of the message contains a video clip link that appears to go to a legitimate site such as Facebook or YouTube but, when clicked on, it takes the user to a bogus web page.

Before the users can play the video they are told they need to download a video player upgrade, which is in fact a password-stealing virus.

The next time the victim logs into Facebook the malware-laden message is sent to all of their friends and the infected link is automatically added in comments on friends’ pages.

Other less sophisticated attacks on Facebook members use spam emails, some appearing to come from Facebook itself, to spread viruses.

In September security firm WebSense reported on spam emails, purportedly sent from an @facebookmail.com address, that tell the victim they have received an invitation from Facebook to add a friend.

“The spammers included a zip attachment that purports to contain a picture in order to entice the recipient to double-click on it. The attached file is actually a Trojan horse,” WebSense said.

i am a groupie , i am a fan

of nicole richie thats who! i recently joined  a group called even though nicole richie is a crackhead, i secretly want to be her. hahaha thats a cool group name and yes, i do want to be her. hhaahah i love her style and she looks good in everu angle (or at least based on the pics ive seen). she is not the conventional beauty and i bet most guys dun even think she’s pretty, but her hair is ultra fabulous and she looks good almost in every style, short, long, curly, straight. The only exception was the dark hair one which kinda sucked. Her fashion sense is also fab, there;s always a twinge of vintage in what she wears and her shades! all nice man. But the most lust-after items are definitely her range of chanel bags. and i like that she always have red nails to go with her outfits.

missed opportunities

im christian and halloween isnt the kind of festival i should be celebrating, unlike X;mas, Easter etc. Problem is, im just intrigued by the whole idea of dressing up and then partying and posing silly for photographs and all. Plus the djs invited to zouk typically are good man, so, sigh! and the past few years i have been wanting to go and ive been discussing and planning, but when it comes to the actual day of event. i cldnt go when i was studying cos its always fall smack in the exams period. and then when i started workng and I could go, i didnt cos of various reason (no costumes, afraid of long queues etc.) SIGH! and when i see my frens’pics uploaded on fb and it looks so darn fun, i would be like.  &*$%…..

anyway i certainly hope i can do it next year, i just wanted to do for the heck of it so i can say, ive finallly “celebrated” halloween. hahhahaa

Obese Philippine flight attendant grounded after 20 year court fight

An obese flight steward for national flag carrier Philippine Airlines has been grounded for good by the Supreme Court after a 20-year legal battle, court records released Friday said.

In a 28-page ruling, the Supreme Court upheld an earlier decision by a lower court that found merit in the termination of Armanda Yrasuegi’s contract.

The 217-pound Yrasuegi was dismissed by Philippine Airlines (PAL) after he failed to lose weight as specified under his contract in 1989.

Yrasuegi challenged the dismissal arguing that his weight had nothing to do with the airworthiness of PAL’s airplanes in a legal battle that would stretch for 19 years.

He argued that his being fat was a “sickness and a physical abnormality” that was beyond his control.

But the Supreme Court noted that Yrasuegi repeatedly refused offers of medical assistance to lose weight and ignored weight checks.

It said Yrasuegi ignored suggestions to “trim down.”

“Thus, his fluctuating weight indicates absence of willpower rather than an illness,” the court said.

“Passenger safety goes to the core of the job of a cabin attendant. On board an aircraft, the body weight and size of a cabin attendant are important factors to consider in case of emergency.

“Aircraft have constricted cabin space, narrow aisles and exit doors,” it stressed.

Yrasuegi’s ideal weight should have been 166 pounds for his height of five feet, eight inches.

Virgin Atlantic sacks 13 staff after Facebook criticism

Virgin Atlantic said Friday it has sacked 13 of its cabin staff after they criticised the airline and some of its passengers on social networking website Facebook.

The airline, controlled by Richard Branson’s Virgin group, said the staff’s behaviour was “totally inappropriate” and “brought the company into disrepute”.

The action follows an investigation into the remarks posted on Facebook, which concerned planes flying from London’s Gatwick airport and insulted passengers, as well as reportedly saying the planes were full of cockroaches.

“Virgin Atlantic can confirm that 13 members of its cabin crew will be leaving the company after breaking staff policies due to totally inappropriate behaviour,” the airline said in a statement.

“Following a thorough investigation, it was found that all 13 staff participated in a discussion on the networking site Facebook, which brought the company into disrepute and insulted some of our passengers.”

It said cabin staff who held such views could not uphold the expected standard of customer service.

“There is a time and a place for Facebook. But there is no justification for it to be used as a sounding board for staff of any company to criticise the very passengers who ultimately pay their salaries,” a spokesman said.

Facebook allows users to share photographs, videos and personal information through online individual profiles and groups. It claims to have 110 million users worldwide.
